The Strait Regional (0052) invites applications from qualified candidates for the posted vacancy.   As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success.  The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,1166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”  In 2025-2026, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations.  Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

This position falls under the Non-Union Compensation Framework. As of August 2025, it is classified at Band 12, with a salary range of $107,166.00 to $133,958.00. Starting salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and experience.

 

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm (12 month position)

Role:

The Human Resource Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating all key human resources functions within the Strait Regional Centre for Education. The position focuses on staffing, employee relations, professional development, and performance management, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, collective agreements, contracts, and relevant legislation.

The Human Resources Coordinator acts as a strategic partner and advisor to senior leadership, principals, and managers by supporting HR planning, providing guidance on labour and employee relations issues, and helping implement organizational initiatives. A major component of this role involves overseeing staff development programs, including training, mentoring, and professional growth opportunities.

This position also manages the full employee lifecycle—from recruitment and hiring through evaluation, promotion, discipline, and separation—while ensuring fair, equitable, and legally compliant processes. It includes responsibility for administering employee benefits, supporting occupational health and safety initiatives, and providing counseling on personnel matters.

The Human Resources Coordinator plays a key part in labour relations by interpreting collective agreements, preparing related materials, participating in dispute resolution and bargaining processes, and representing the organization’s interests.


Requirements:

 

Education:

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent education and work experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ successful experience in a Human Resource role in public education
  • Experience in labour relations, including interpretation and application of collective agreements


Knowledge & Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of HR principles and practices (staffing, organizational development, compensation, benefits, employee relations)
  • Knowledge of employment law and legal issues affecting workplaces
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety legislation and practices
  • Understanding of unionized environments (e.g., teachers’ and public sector unions)

Asset (Preferred):

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation
