As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success.  The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”  In 2024-2025, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations.  Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

Teachers who are hired or recalled into new positions will be required to participate in a New Teacher training if they have not already done so.

Job Description

reporting to the Coordinator of Programs/French Programs, the Technology Integration Consultant will work directly with schools and teachers in settings to fully integrate technology as part of the teaching and learning process.

 

Responsibilities will include:

   

  • Collaborating with school personnel regarding knowledge management and technology support;
  • Providing data and statistics as requested by the Strait Regional Centre for Education, Department of Education & Early Childhood Development or other sources;
  • Planning and conducting appropriate professional development sessions for teachers, school administrators, secretaries, and regional support staff;
  • Representing the Strait Regional Centre for Education on various technology initiatives at the provincial level including RBTS and Google Apps for Education committees;
  • Overseeing and supporting the continued implementation of the Student Information System - Power School, Power Teacher Pro, TIENET, School Messenger, and related applications within all schools of the Strait Regional Centre for Education.
  • Liaising with technical support staff and oversee the delivery of technology support services to all regional centre facilities;
  • Supporting various initiatives involving technology integration in any aspect of school programs including coding, Google Apps for Education, makerspaces, and IEIE plans;
  • Providing leadership and work with school administrators in the implementation of all pertinent policies and procedures regarding student discipline and student conduct, including service on related regional centre committees;
  • Serving on the Strait Regional Centre for Education Programs and Student Services team to assist schools in providing excellent learning opportunities for students and staff;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Programs/French Programs;

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Valid Nova Scotia teacher certification;
  • Master of Education Degree
  • Minimum of five years of successful experience in school/regional support
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, time management, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge, training, and experience with InSchool, sources of student data, and software projects including Power School, PowerTeacher Pro, School Messenger, and TIENET
  • Expertise in school data management and the use of related technologies such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology to transform instruction, assessment, and evaluation;
  • Experience with educational hardware and software including but not limited to: GAFE, Moodle, Mimio, iPads, Chromebooks, and digital resources;
  • Excellence in classroom pedagogy and lesson development utilizing the following learning skills - critical thinking, collaboration, communication & problem solving, and creativity;
  • Proficiency in the use of technology to promote and enhance student engagement & motivation;
  • Proficiency in the integration of Nova Scotia Information Communication Technology (ICT) curriculum outcomes into classroom curriculum and activities.
  • Experience working regionally in a technology support position and in delivering professional development to school personnel;
  • Successful teaching experience with demonstrated integration of technologies in teaching and learning as part of everyday instructional practices;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of various technology-oriented and regional centre teams.
  • Must be able to travel to all school sites in the SRCE.
