As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success.  The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”  In 2024-2025, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations.  Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership of French Second Language Programs, including French Immersion and Core French
  • Ensure all French Language Teachers are trained and implementing the neurolinguistic approach of French Language instruction
  • Assist with the recruitment and hiring of French Second Language teachers, in collaboration with the Human Resources Division
  • Provision of direct support to schools in all aspects of French Programs
  • Design and facilitation of school-based and regional professional development sessions
  • Coordination of French cultural and extra-curricular activities in schools, such as Concours
  • Support French language mentors and interventionists
  • Support to schools in the interpretation of assessment results in literacy and numeracy to support student programming
  • Liaison with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and community partners on French programs
  • Representation of the Strait Regional Centre for Education on local and provincial committees
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within the Programs and Student Services team
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs & Student Services

 

**Travel within the Region and Province will be required

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate;
  • Master of Education or actively involved in pursing a Masters in Education degree:
  • Undergraduate degree with major or minor in French;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the French Language, oral and written
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience in French Second Language  
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication, organization and collaboration skills

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • School or regional administrative experience considered an asset
