As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success. The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,1166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.” In 2025-2026, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

Scope:
The Coordinator of Programs is a senior regional leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of educational programs and curriculum across the Strait Regional Centre for Education. Reporting to the Director of Programs and Student Services, the position provides strategic leadership for curriculum delivery, professional learning, inclusive education practices, student assessment, and instructional improvement from Pre-primary through Grade 12, including the Nova Scotia International Student Program. The role supervises curriculum consultants, program leads, and managers; supports principals and schools in meeting diverse student needs; analyzes student achievement and well-being data to guide improvement efforts; manages program priorities and resources; and works collaboratively with provincial partners, families, and community stakeholders to ensure equitable, high-quality learning experiences for all students.
Competencies:
Strong ability to lead curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and instructional improvement across multiple programs and grade levels.
Ability to analyze student achievement and well-being data, identify priorities, and develop effective system-wide improvement strategies.
Experience supervising and supporting consultants, program leaders, principals, and educators while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Deep understanding of inclusive education, restorative approaches, and culturally responsive pedagogy to support diverse learner needs.
Capacity to lead large-scale professional development initiatives and guide schools through policy and program implementation.
Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with educators, families, community partners, and provincial stakeholders.
Ability to respond effectively to complex and urgent situations using solution-focused approaches and sound professional judgment.
Strong skills in planning, prioritization, budgeting, resource allocation, and managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Ability to build productive relationships across schools, departments, external agencies, and community organizations to support student success.
High degree of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive educational and personnel matters.
Qualifications:
Valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate
Masters Degree in Curriculum Development and/or Instructional Leadership
7-10 years of relevant leadership experience in education
Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience, preferable across multiple grade levels
Minimum 5 years of successful leadership experience at the school or regional level
Strong background in curriculum implementation, instructional leadership, student assessment/achievement, and professional learning and staff development
Experience leading and supporting inclusive education practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and restorative approaches
Ability to analyze and respond strategically to student achievement and well-being data
Experience collaborating with families, community partners, and cross-functional teams
Knowledge of PowerSchool and educational program management
Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently, lead teams, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment
Ability to manage complex situations and provide solution-focused leadership
Completion of the Instructional Leadership Academy is an asset
Regional or provincial leadership experience is an asset
Proficiency in French Language is an asset
