As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success.  The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,050 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”  In 2024-2025, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,981 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations.  Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

Work Schedule: 7.5 hours per day; 12 month position; flex schedule

Role:

Working under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Student Services, and in consultation with school administrators, the SchoolsPlus Facilitator will work to increase collaborative service delivery for at-risk children, youth and their families by:

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Facilitating all phases of service delivery for children and youth deemed at risk, including but not limited to, identification, intervention, monitoring and consultation services;
  • Liaising with outside agencies to increase local access to services for identified students and their families;
  • Overseeing the implementation of specific programs with the Schools Plus initiative, including but not limited to, after school and summer programs;
  • Completing all aspects of documentation, data collection and reporting association with Schools Plus, as required at the Regional Centre and Provincial levels, including a daily log of activities to be shared weekly with the Coordinator of Student Services;
  • Tracking and reporting of budget;
  • Direct supervision of Schools Plus Community Outreach Worker;
  • Completing other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Student Services.

 

Qualifications:
*Bachelor of Social Work;
*Three (3) years successful professional experience acquired post-degree in a private or public agency serving children and youth;
*Knowledge and experience with computers;
*Excellent oral and written communication skills, including case notes;
*Excellent presentation, organizational, problem solving and team-building skills;
*Professional experience in interagency service delivery to youth and families with complex needs;
*Experience working independently and providing leadership;
*Ability to work as a team member in all phases of programming;
*Valid NS Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle;

*Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of youth and their families.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

*Masters Degree in Social Work;

*Strong working relationships with community partners to support children and youth deemed at risk;

*Experience and knowledge in an educational setting;

*Familiarity of community resources available in the Antigonish County and Guysborough area;

*Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification or willingness to obtain;

*Direct knowledge of the communities served is an asset;

*Training and/or experience in working with children and youth at risk is an asset.
