As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success. The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,050 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.” In 2024-2025, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,954 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021 ).

Consultant of Youth Pathways
Responsibilities:
The Consultant of Youth Pathways is responsible for;
- Working as part of a program team, the Consultant will report directly to the Director Programs and Student Services;
- The support and ongoing development and implementation of community-based learning initiatives provided by the Centre for Education in cooperation with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development;
- Collaborate with School Administration and staff to support implementation and delivery of programs such as Options & Opportunities (O 2 ), Skilled Trades, Discovering Opportunities, and Cooperative Education (co-op) by ensuring curriculum guidelines and procedures are met;
- Facilitate school-based and regional professional development activities;
- Monitor budgets;
- Strengthening working partnerships with post-secondary institutions, employers and the community to enrich and expand current and future community-based learning programs.
- Represent the Strait Regional Centre for Education on provincial and regional committees related to the instructional program and Department of Education and Early Childhood Education initiatives under the responsibility of the Youth Pathways Consultant;
- Collect, monitor and report data on program implementation in the Strait Regional Centre for Education;
- Ensure schools are compliant with guidelines concerning curriculum and procedures;
- Ensure appropriate guidelines and procedures are in place to support schools with the initiation, implementation and management of community-based learning programs and the O 2 Program;
- Ensure schools are made aware of their responsibility with respect to requirements such as adequate risk assessment, insurance policies for students, transportation policies and teacher insurance coverage;
- The implementation of Technology Education, grades 7-12.
Essential Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Administration or Curriculum or Program Development, or equivalent;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including use of technology;
- Experience in facilitating professional development for school personnel;
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
- Experience working with student information systems such as Power School and the ability to extract/use data from it to inform decision making and reporting;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision; self-starter;
- Ability to make decisions and recommendations in a fast paced environment; and ability to attend evening/weekend meetings and working sessions.
Desirable requirements:
- Successful experience in an administrative role in public education which must include school based administration.
