As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success.  The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”  In 2025-2026, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations.  Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

Worksite:  Strait Area Education / Bayview Education Centre / Whycocomagh Education Centre 

Work Schedule: 7.5 hours/day; flexible hours

SchoolsPlus Community Outreach Worker  

Working under the direct supervision of the SRCE SchoolsPlus Facilitator, the Community Outreach Worker will assist the Facilitator with the delivery of SchoolsPlus services and supports to students and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*  Ability to work under direct supervision of SchoolsPlus Facilitator;
*  Ability to complete assigned duties in a timely, efficient, and independent manner, within a team framework;
*  Ability to establish and maintain supportive professional relationships with students and their families;
*  Ability to collaborate with partner agencies as part of a Comprehensive Plan of Services for families, including meeting attendance and consultation;
*  Facilitation of support groups for children and youth in schools and community settings in the Inverness County schools;
*  Completion of assigned duties during weekdays, evenings, weekends, March Break and summer months;
*  Observe all confidentiality requirements of the Strait Regional Centre for Education;
*  Adhere to all policies and guidelines;
*  Other duties as assigned.

 

Additional information:
Regional Circuit Position - Please note that the base school will be at SAERC.  Travelling will be required to Bayview Education Centre & Whycocomagh Education Centre.

 

Essential Qualifications:
*Successful completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in the social sciences, preferably, sociology and/or social work education, para-professional assistant training programs for rehabilitative services (e.g. - Occuptational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology, Recreation Therapy, etc.), etc.;
*Minimum of two years experience, or acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience;
*Strong written and oral communication skills;
*Candidate must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle;
*Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of youth and their families.
 
 Desirable Qualifications:   

*  Direct knowledge of the communities served is an asset
*  Training and/or experience in working with youth at risk is an asset.
