The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

SUMMER LITERACY CAMP TEACHER

Role:
Summer School Literacy Elementary Teacher - Tentative dates: July 21, 2025 - August 15, 2025.
*Successful applicant must be available for mandatory training for three days within two weeks leading up to the start date of the camp, dates to be determined.
The teacher be responsible for 90 (two 45 Minute Sessions) of instruction per day, so will be required to work half days.
Qualifications/Experience
- A valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate;
- Bachelor of Education - Elementary;
- Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
Abilities:
The Summer Literacy Camp Teacher shall have the following competencies:
- The ability to apply knowledge and experience in the design and delivery of small group early literacy instruction;
- The ability to apply knowledge of current effective and equitable literacy assessment and instructional practices;
- The ability to plan instructional goals and designated outcomes for all students and to clearly communicate those to learners;
- The ability to utilize current technologies to perform work related procedures including data collection;
- The ability to work collaboratively as a contributing team member;
- The ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of race relations, cross cultural understanding, human rights and diversity and culturally relevant pedagogy;
- The ability to maintain and promote confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
The Summer Literacy Camp Teacher shall perform literacy support-related tasks with both whole-group and small groups of students. These tasks may include but not be limited to the following:
- Take part in training prior to the beginning of the camp (lesson structure, use of mentor texts & other materials, assessment tools, etc.) (July 4-6, 2023);
- Provide 90 minute (two 45 minute sessions) literacy lessons, including small group and/or individualized instruction to students selected for the Summer Literacy Camp;
- Compile and record initial and ending data for students;
- Maintain complete records on each student as a basis to inform instruction;
- Use a variety of assessment strategies, including completing daily on-going observations and informal assessment collection.
