The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education encompasses the three counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving 5757 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

     Position:               Mechanic

 

      Reports to:            Coordinator of Transportation

 

      Location:               Yarmouth Bus Garage (2 Vacancies)

The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education is located in South-West Nova Scotia and includes Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby Counties. Currently, there are approximately 5700 students within 22 schools among the various unique communities in the area.

 

The successful candidate for this position will be responsible to maintain and repair school buses as well as other fleet vehicles.  Internal CUPE Local 964 Members given first consideration.

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid journeyman certification, or registered as a Truck / Transport Mechanic - registered apprentices will also be given consideration;
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs;
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with transportation staff and school administration and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds;
  • A team player who is able to work independently and within deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective feedback.

Accountabilities:

  • Perform all mechanical duties as assigned in accordance with approved standards, the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and TCRCE policies and procedures;
  • Keep accurate record of vehicle inspections and maintenance;
  •  Complete all assigned work orders and record hours and materials used;
  • Keep work area clean and safe;
  • Work cooperatively with other garage staff on jobs that require more than one worker;
  • Maintain the safe operation of all equipment used in the bus garages;
  • Conduct road tests as required;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
