The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate;
  • Masters Degree in Leadership, Educational Administration or acceptable equivalent;
  • Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience, ideally at various levels;
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a successful school-based Principal;
  • Instructional Leadership Academy completion is an asset;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at the Regional/Provincial level is an asset.

 

OTHER ASSETS:

  • Successful leadership experience in curriculum, instruction and assessment at various grade levels;
  • Successful leadership experience in development and delivery of high quality and effective professional development;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with urgent and complex situations in solution-focused approaches;
  • Understanding and effective implementation of Restorative Approaches, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, and the principles of Inclusive Education;
  • Understanding and effective leadership in responding strategically to student, school and regional level data (academic, well-being and disaggregated);  
  • Experience working with and encouraging the contributions of family, community members and other partners in education;
  • Knowledge and experience with cross-divisional teams, projects, and responsibilities;
  • Knowledge and experience with PowerSchool;
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.

 

JOB GOAL:

The Family of Schools Supervisor (FoSS) provides leadership, direction and support to school administration and indirect support to regional teams. They are the direct supervisor of a team of up to 18 school-based administrators and will prioritize school-based support.

The Family of Schools Supervisor works to ensure each school is a safe, relational and welcoming learning environment that promotes inclusion and equity, while ensuring high levels of academic achievement and student well-being.  

The Family of Schools Supervisor provides innovative professional learning opportunities for administrators at the school, and various regional levels.

The Family of Schools Supervisor ensures the work of Student Success Planning is supportive of and aligned with the System Improvement Plan, as well as the vision of TCRCE. The FoSS will be the regional lead and will work collaboratively with other team members to operationalize the school plans. 

Through work on-site in schools, the Family of Schools Supervisor ensures that research based, impactful practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment are followed.

The Family of Schools Supervisor works to support the collective and collaborative efforts of the Director of Programs and Student Services as well as the Educational Leadership Team in service to school leadership.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Family of Schools Supervisor shall perform tasks as assigned by the System Supervisor. These tasks may vary from time to time with the evolution of the organization and may include but not be limited to the following:

  • Leading the development and implementation of strategic and impactful Professional Learning Plans that align with and support the achievement of Student Success Plans, as well as the System Improvement Plan. 
  • Ensuring that schools follow TCRCE and provincial guidelines, protocols, and procedures, as well as policies.
  • Determining the professional learning needs of staff and school-based administration in order to respond to changing student, staff and system needs.
  • Developing and leading high-quality professional learning experiences that focus on: the achievement of school and system goals; student evidence; inclusive and relational practices; as well as closing the instructional gap for underserved students. 
  • Developing and leading highly effective school leadership and management through performance appraisals on each staff member within their responsibility. 
  • Providing leadership to develop collaborative networks of professionals within schools and the region to move student achievement forward. 
  • Providing leadership and oversight to ensure that schools are safe and effective from an operational perspective.   
  • Work in a collaborative and cross-divisional manner to support projects and/or the goals of the organization. 
  • Responding to staff and parental concerns.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Physical Effort – Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally required to stop or lift light material or equipment.

Physical Environment - Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion, e.g., dust, moderate noise.

Sensory Attention – Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing

Mental Pressures – There is continuous pressure from deadlines, production, quotas, accuracy or similar demands.  Unpleasant situations are frequent.  Moderate disruption of family/social life.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and conditions of employment are set by management and in accordance with the PSAANS Employment Relations regulations.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Programs and Student Services.
