The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Position: Coordinator of Student Services
Reports to: Director, Programs and Student Services

The Coordinator of Student Services is a vital leadership role responsible for managing and overseeing the operations of the Student Services in the Tri-County Region. This position ensures the effective delivery of comprehensive programs and supports that address the diverse needs of students.
This role includes direct supervision and leadership of various professionals, including Student Services and Active Healthy Living consultants; Autism Support Specialists; Transition Supports; Social Emotional Learning Staff; Assistive Technology & Augmentative Communication teams (including AT Support Workers); School Psychologists, Learning Disability Specialists; Speech-Language Pathologists; and School Health Partnership Services. It also involves oversight of School Counsellors, Teacher Assistants, tutors, and teachers specializing in Learning Support roles. Additionally, the Coordinator oversees the SchoolsPlus Supports, which encompasses Community Outreach Workers, Parent Navigator, SchoolsPlus Facilitators, the SchoolsPlus Facilitator Lead and Child and Youth Care Practitioners
The coordinator ensures the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs, aligning services with educational policies and best practices. Acting as a key liaison between the Student Services Department and government departments, the coordinator fosters collaboration to enhance outcomes for students and their families. This role also requires active engagement with community partners and stakeholders to coordinate resources and support services effectively.
As an integral member of the regional Educational Leadership Team, the Coordinator contributes to strategic decision-making and planning to advance educational priorities. They provide mentorship and leadership to staff, promoting professional growth and building capacity within the department. The coordinator also ensures compliance with policies and regulations while monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of programs and services, using data-driven insights to inform continuous improvement efforts.
This position demands a strong background in educational leadership and student services management, with expertise in inclusive education practices and collaborative service delivery models. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role, which is pivotal in ensuring equitable access to resources and supports for all students, empowering them to achieve academic, social, and emotional success.
Qualifications
- Master’s in Special Education and Master’s of Education in Administration or Leadership
- A valid Nova Scotia teaching license
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years successful administrative experience; school or regionally based;
- Minimum five (5) years working with classroom teachers, Learning Support Teachers, Administration and Student Services personnel with implementation of the inclusive education policy;
- Experience with providing support and supervision to staff;
- Experience and knowledge working across all grade levels (Primary- 12);
- Experience with data management.

- Provide leadership in policies, guidelines, procedures and evaluations for appropriate services and programming for students with special needs, consistent with the department’s policies and guidelines.
- Coordinate schedules and programming of itinerant supports across the region.
- Supervise and evaluate Student Services, SchoolsPlus and Active Healthy Living staff.
- Manage budget within assigned portfolio.
- Advise Operational Services on construction and renovations to meet student needs and coordinate with Transportation Department regarding transportation needs.
- Collaborate with senior leadership in respect to staff allocation in student services.
- Represent the Regional Centre on provincial or regional committees to develop and advance services and programming for students with special needs.
- Liaise with outside agencies regarding interagency cooperation to serve students.
- Provide support and communicate in a timely manner to parents of students with special needs.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs and Student Services.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a Public School Administrators Association of Nova Scotia (PSAANS) position. The salary for this role is Band 13 as outlined within the terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework.
