The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Position: Coordinator of Instruction and Assessment
Reports to: Director, Programs and Student Services
Location: Harbour House (Central Office), Yarmouth NS
Reporting to the Director of Programs and Student Services, the Coordinator of Instruction and Assessment provides system leadership for instructional practices, curriculum implementation, assessment, evaluation, and the effective use of data across the Regional Centre.
Through aligned, collaborative, and relational leadership, the Coordinator works with schools, program staff, and provincial and community partners to support instructional coherence, improve student achievement, and ensure consistent, evidence-informed practices. The Coordinator is responsible for leading system approaches to instruction and assessment, including literacy and mathematics, within a dynamic and inclusive educational environment.
Qualifications
- Valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate.
- Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum, Educational Leadership, Assessment, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
- Experience in administrative or system-level leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading school improvement planning processes.
- Extensive experience utilizing assessment data and student information systems (SIS) to support instructional improvement.
- Experience leading professional learning related to instruction, assessment, and data use.
- Knowledge and experience supporting mathematics instruction.
- Strong understanding of the Nova Scotia Public School Program and regional system priorities.
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Key Accountabilities
Instruction and Curriculum Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight for instructional and curriculum implementation aligned with the Public School Program (PSP), Regional Improvement Plan, and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development priorities.
- Support instructional coherence and alignment across schools and grade levels.
- Lead system initiatives related to effective instructional practice, including mathematics instruction.
- Support schools in curriculum planning, instructional improvement, and responsive practices through coaching, consultation, and collaboration.
Assessment, Evaluation, and Data Use
- Lead the implementation and ongoing refinement of assessment practices in alignment with Provincial Assessment Policy.
- Provide system leadership in assessment, evaluation, and reporting practices.
- Receive, review, collate, disaggregate, and interpret system data, including provincial assessments and regional student achievement and well-being data.
- Lead and support the systematic and effective use of data to inform school improvement planning and instructional decision-making.
- Serve as liaison between the Regional Centre and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for provincial assessments and examinations.
Mathematics Leadership
- Provide leadership and support for mathematics instruction across the region.
- Lead initiatives focused on improving student achievement in mathematics through evidence-based instructional and assessment practices.
- Supervise and support assigned math program staff, consultant(s), and coaches as applicable.
Literacy Leadership
- Provide leadership and support for literacy instruction across the region.
- Lead initiatives focused on improving student achievement in literacy through evidence-based instructional and assessment practices.
- Supervise and support assigned literacy program staff, consultant(s), and coaches as applicable.
Professional Learning and Capacity Building
- Coordinate and support professional learning related to instruction, curriculum, assessment, and data-informed practice.
- Support School Success Planning and other improvement initiatives, including Priority Schools.
- Provide expert assistance to the Regional Executive Director and Executive Team related to system and regional improvement planning.
- Model effective instructional leadership and foster continuous professional growth.
System Collaboration
- Collaborate with other Coordinators, Directors, and departments to ensure coherence across programs and services.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources to support staffing processes, performance growth, and professional development.
- Support implementation of Teacher Growth and Evaluation processes, where assigned.
Planning, Partnerships, and Communication
- Support collaborative efforts with external agencies related to student development and well-being indicators (e.g., EDI, MDI).
- Represent the Regional Centre on provincial or regional committees related to instruction and assessment.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with schools and stakeholders regarding instructional and assessment initiatives.
Other Duties
- Carry out other duties, projects, and initiatives as assigned by the Director of Programs and Student Services.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a Public School Administrators Association of Nova Scotia (PSAANS) position. The salary for this role is Band 12 as outlined within the terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework.
