The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Position: Coordinator of Assessment and Mathematics
Reports to: Director of Programs and Student Services, works closely with counterparts at the DEECD
Location: Harbour House (Central Office), 79 Water Street, Yarmouth NS (Flexible)
Through aligned, collaborative and relational leadership, the Coordinator works as a team member with other Programs and Student Services Coordinators and leads their staff in working strategically and effectively with schools and community partners to best meet students’ programming needs within a broader coherent framework.
This includes: development, implementation, management and evaluation.
In working with the schools to best meet the diverse needs of students in a culturally responsive manner, this leader develops effective, innovative and aligned solutions which may include partnerships with external stakeholders. It is anticipated that the initiatives and services under the leadership of the Coordinator of Assessment and Mathematics will be flexible, dynamic and changing.
Qualifications
- A valid Nova Scotia teaching license;
- Master’s degree in Curriculum, Leadership or other area directly relevant to assessment, data, school improvement planning or equivalent;
- Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience;
- Minimum 2 years successful administration experience;
- Substantial experience leading a variety of school improvement planning processes;
- Extensive experience utilizing data effectively;
- Extensive experience effectively using student information systems (SIS);
- Experience leading professional learning in area including assessment, instruction, use of data to support school improvement planning;
- Knowledge and experience teaching and supporting mathematics;
- Successful experience teaching and/or working at a variety of grade levels and/or school sizes;
- Experience in hiring, supervising, training and providing professional development, and evaluating staff;
- A strong knowledge of programs within the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education and the Nova Scotia Public School program (PSP)

Accountabilities
- Promote and enhance student achievement, learning, assessment and evaluation;
- Provide professional development and professional development leadership, assessment, and curriculum support for teachers;
- Provide expert assistance to the RED & Executive Team relating to System/Regional Improvement planning;
- Participate and collaborate in evidence-based decision making within the region;
- Collaborate in issues relating to Student Success Planning,
- Participate in improvement projects including Priority Schools;
- Lead initiatives related to effective assessment and mathematics instruction;
- Support the administration and on-going collaborative efforts with outside agencies related to the Early Development Instruments (EDI);
- Provide direction and support to the full Programs department, principals and teachers with ongoing and deepening work involving assessment, evaluation, reporting and understanding and responding to data;
- Receive, review, collate, disaggregate and interpret various system data sets (including Provincial Assessments and Regional student achievement and well-being data);
- Participate in provincial team meetings including Regional Assessment Coordinators; Teacher Growth and Evaluation and supporting Mathematics;
- Liaise between province and region for all provincial assessments and examinations;
- Lead and support the system with the ongoing implementation of assessment initiatives;
- Implementation of provincial Assessment Policy;
- Lead and support the systematic use and effective response to data;
- Lead implementation of Teacher Growth and Evaluation policy and process;
- Supervision of regional math team;
- Support ongoing implementation of the Inclusive Education Policy;
- Provide leadership, where assigned, to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Department of Education and Early Childhood Development mandates and initiatives. This includes most areas of academic instruction and assessment contained in the Provincial School Program (PSP);
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations;
- Other duties, initiatives, projects as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a Public School Administrators Association of Nova Scotia (PSAANS) position. The salary for this role is Band 12 as outlined within the terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework.
