The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Assignment:
50% Literacy Consultant P-12
50% Literacy Coach P-12
Reports to: Coordinator of Literacy P-12
Location: Various Schools; Central Office - Yarmouth, NS
The P-12 Literacy Consultant/Coach will be responsible for promoting evidenced-based literacy practices/initiatives with school-based staff under the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). They will assist interventionists and school teams regarding progress monitoring and supports needed for literacy instruction and coach through a student-centered model.
Qualifications

A valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s License
-
A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in ELA; preferably with P-12 literacy and literacy coaching experience

A master’s degree in education (preferably with a literacy concentration), or
-
Active enrollment in a master’s program (preferably in literacy) with at least two completed courses, or
-
In the region’s judgment, formal qualifications including a minimum of an undergraduate degree in education and specific training/experience directly related to the position

Strong background in effective literacy instruction and assessment; preferably with Early Literacy Support/Structured literacy experience

Accountabilities
-
Support Provincial Literacy Frameworks set by EECD: guide training and promote effective prevention and intervention for literacy difficulties (i.e. modeling structured literacy instruction);
-
Model analyzing, interpreting and progress monitoring, with interventionists/support teachers/school staff, of students in Tier 1 to determine if Tier 2,3 supports are required. Continuously monitor these students, with school teams, and support progress;

Provide coaching to teachers in the implementation of best literacy practices under MTSS (student-centered approach), focusing on evidence-based instruction and assessment aligned with TCRCE and provincial goals and initiatives;

Act as a regional leader within the Literacy Team and support school-based teams;

Lead training and provide support to school-based Literacy Interventionists (e.g., structured literacy practices, progress monitoring, school visits, and other duties as assigned);
-
Attend meetings as requested by the supervisor (e.g., Principals’, Vice-Principals’, regional/provincial meetings, and others as appropriate);
-
Participate in and assist with the delivery of professional development;
-
Manage projects and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner;
-
Participate on regional committees as approved by the supervisor;
-
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
As part of the requirements of this job the successful candidate will be required to substitute on an as needed basis in schools. This assignment is subject to change and the successful candidate for this position will be reassigned to a classroom position if necessary.
