POSITION TITLE: Admissions Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Admissions Officer (AO) is responsible for coordinating, administrating, and managing the admissions process for the Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP). The AO ensures enrollment strategies and methodologies are in place to support service delivery to all joint venture members and their partners. They work within a team environment to ensure enrolment targets are met by applying established admissions criteria to select qualified students. The AO assesses and evaluates international student applications and independently makes admission decisions to accept or deny admission to the NSISP academic and homestay program.

 

REPORTS TO:   Assistant Executive Director of the NSIS

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or College Diploma;
  • A minimum of three years of recent and related experience in records management;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Current Nova Scotia driver’s license;
  • Experience in youth or international programs, experience using databases, and fluency in other

languages are considered assets.

 

ABILITIES:

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are necessary to coordinate the documentation and process student applications effectively;
  • Ability to maintain, in the strictest confidence, information received concerning confidential matters;
  • Ability to make decisions independently. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Work well within policy guidelines and can apply policies, standards, and practices consistently;
  • Proficient with computers, including extensive knowledge of spreadsheets, database software, and word processing software;
  • Possess skills specifically related to coordinating competing priorities and demands;
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed records. Proven records and information management skills and abilities;
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of international education standards to evaluate transcripts to ensure pre-requisites have been met;
  • Extensive knowledge of region-specific availability of International Baccalaureate
  • Program, School Sport Nova Scotia, and community resources to ensure suitable homestay placement;
  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Ability to communicate effectively with members of the Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP) joint venture, students, and partners.
  • Possess exceptional teamwork skills and contribute positively to a team environment;
  • Confidence to speak publicly to small and large groups in person and virtually;
  • Ability to effectively coordinate documentation required to process student applications;
  • Willingness to engage in a growth mindset, utilizing continuing education and skills upgrading;
  • Ability to travel within Nova Scotia and internationally for recruitment trips, agent tours, or other NSISP activities and events.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Permanent, full-time position. Annual salary range is $60,824-$76,029. A satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record Check, according to NSISP policies and standards, will be required.
