Introduction The Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education invites applications from Permanent, Probationary and Temporary (Casual) employees currently with Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education as well as outside applicants for the following Licensed Journeyman Electrician. Position is based in Central Office (Truro).

The Licensed Journeyman Electrician shall support the Property Services initiatives in the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education´s facilities and activities. Those tasks may vary from time to time and may include the following:

- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests and repairs all electrical systems within the CCRCE as directed and assigned.
- Diagnose electrical problems and effect repairs in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
- Evaluate necessary repairs and identify any required materials and parts to complete maintenance assignments.
- Maintain appropriate, accurate records and documentation of work performed through the work order system.
- Prepare all required reports and maintain any necessary records.
- Ability to contribute to the implementation of Property Services policies and procedures within CCRCE, as appropriate.
- Maintain knowledge of CCRCE and department specific policies and procedures and follow same.
- Occasionally assist or perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic trades such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanical systems, etc. as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on installed equipment and mechanical and electrical systems.
- Maintain accurate records of work performance through use of approved work order system.
- Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
- Ensure that appropriate procedures are followed within the Electrical Code, and National Building and Fire Codes.
- Maintain required inventory needs as required.
- Instruct users in the proper application and care of any installed components.
- Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Observe and implement proper safety practices for a safe and secure workplace.
- Perform general clean-up of job site.
- Maintain assigned vehicle in an orderly fashion. Ensure regular operational checks are carried out, regular vehicle maintenance is scheduled, and regular mileage log is maintained.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student, school and CCRCE matters.
- Participate in workshops and training sessions, as required.
- Follow all Regional Centre for Education policies and department policies and procedures.
- Performing such other duties as requested or assigned by Supervisor.
 
Minimum Requirements - Licensed Journeyman Electrician
- Minimum of Grade 12 High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma.
- Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in the trade (preference for commercial/industrial/ institutional settings).
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and be willing to drive extensively throughout the identified Family of Schools.
- Ability to read and understand construction diagrams.
- Ability to analyze and solve through troubleshooting, a wide variety of problems related to facility maintenance.
- Ability to operate a personal computer (with experience in PC application of word processing, spreadsheets) an asset.
- Ability to physically perform the duties required including significant periods of walking, extended periods of standing, sitting, involves heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and repetitive push/pull motion.
- Experience working in an educational setting.
- Exposure to computer maintenance systems such as SAP is an asset.
