Introduction The Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education invites applications from Permanent, Probationary and Temporary (Casual) employees currently with Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education as well as outside applicants for the following Licensed Mechanic. This is a Full time Regional position serving the Cobequid Family of Schools, based in Truro.
 
Minimum Requirements o Province of Nova Scotia Truck (Bus) and Transport Mechanic Certificate or enrolled in an apprenticeship program; [applicants must include a copy of Certificate, if applicable]
o Minimum of Grade 12 High School Graduation Certificate or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma;
o Minimum of three (3) years work experience in the trade (preference for commercial/industrial/ educational settings);
o Must have training or be willing to receive training in applicable safety programs.
o Able to perform duties with minimal supervision;
o Valid Nova Scotia Driver´s License - Class 2 or higher, or willing to obtain such Class.

o Other Assets:
o Ability to perform duties effectively with minimum supervision.
o Must possess or be willing to obtain relevant health and safety courses in First Aid, WHMIS, etc. or other regulatory training courses;
o Must demonstrate competency in computer skills.
o Must be proficient and knowledgeable in diagnostic systems.
 
Additional Assets Qualifications
o Valid Nova Scotia Driver´s license Class 2 or higher, or willing to obtain such Class.
o Province of Nova Scotia Truck (Bus) and Transport Mechanic Certificate, including air brake endorsement or enrolled in an apprenticeship program.
o Minimum of Grade 12 High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma.
o Minimum of three (3) years work experience in the trade (preference for commercial/industrial/educational settings).
o Must have training or be willing to receive training in applicable safety programs.



Reports To
Applicable Transportation Foreman/Head Mechanic (as applicable), Coordinator of Pupil Transportation, or designate.

Job Goal
To perform duties of Mechanic as outlined in an efficient and economical manner while maintaining maximum productivity.


Performance Responsibilities
The Mechanic is responsible for:
1. Performing such mechanical duties as the Foreperson/Head Mechanic, Coordinator of Pupil Transportation, or designate may direct.
2. Cooperating and working with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Inspectors, as required.
3. Maintain proper record keeping identifying work completed on buses.
4. While servicing vehicles, complete a comprehensive check on the vehicle to determine if there are any deficiencies present that may cause a problem with the operation of the vehicle.
5. Advising the Foreperson/Head Mechanic of any unsafe conditions that may exist on Centre vehicles.
6. Working together with fellow employees in a team effort.
7. Ensuring that Centre tools and equipment are cleaned and put away in their respective places when each job is completed.
8. Keeping personal, work and general shop areas clean and tidy at all times for safety reasons.
9. Complying with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act.
10. Respecting the safety and well-being of fellow employees.
11. Ensuring that all repairs made to Centre vehicles is in keeping with the Motor Vehicle/Motor Carrier Act.
12. Reporting any unsafe work site conditions to the Foreperson/Head Mechanic so that it may be rectified.
13. Attending all workshops and training sessions required by the Centre (if available).
14. Keeping a valid mechanic license or licenses, and displaying same in a designated place within the work area.
15. Performing other related duties as may be required from time to time by the appropriate Foreperson/Head Mechanic, Coordinator of Pupil Transportation, or designate.

Terms of Employment
Position commencing immediately. Salary as per Schedule A of the Collective Agreement between CCRCE and CUPE Local 3890.
