The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

HOURS OF WORK:  Varies

WORK TERM:   Casual on-call basis, September to June annually

LOCATION:  Various schools throughout the Cape Breton Victoria Regional Centre for Education.

RATE OF PAY:  $20.40 per hour 


MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Grade 12 education or an acceptable equivalent in experience
  • The ability to work with children and provide assistance
  • Demonstrated ability to do work as required in the posted position
  • Reliable and conscientious
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: BUS ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR

 

ROLE: TO ACCOMPANY SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS ON SCHOOL BUSSES ASSISTING THEM ON AND OFF THE BUS

 

  • Help the children on and off the bus. They are to let the children who are capable do as much as possible for themselves and should always be at the bus entrance to make sure they get on and off safely;
  • Operate the wheelchair lift and secure wheelchairs;
  • Ensure that children in wheelchairs are taken off the bus and into the school;
  • See that all children are safely in their seats on the bus;
  • Maintain constant supervision of the children while they are on the bus;
  • Familiarize themselves with any medical or other problems the children may have;
  • Any other related duties as assigned.
