The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

Qualifications 

  • A valid Nova Scotia Teachers License
  •  Masters of Education degree in Instructional/Educational Leadership or Administration
  •  A Masters level degree with equivalent leadership education and/or experience may be considered
  • Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a school based or system administrator in a leadership position requiring the supervision of staff or such length and combination of relevant administrative experience that is considered equivalent (with a minimum of three (3) years of school-based administration experience).  
  • Proven leadership in educational settings and professional learning facilitation.

  • The ability to apply knowledge of current trends in educational research; particularly in instruction, assessment and instructional leadership. 

  • The ability to provide leadership and coordination in the delivery of the PSP from implementation to evaluation of the effectiveness of the delivery process. 

  • The ability to provide leadership in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data related to student achievement and well-being.   

  • The ability to analyze problems and formulate recommendations to develop policies, processes, and practices which support improvements to school operations, student achievement and well-being. 

  • The ability to provide support to the Director of Programs and Student Services to establish centre-wide priorities which may be reflected in student success plans.

The Coordinator of Programs at the Cape Breton Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for all program and curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and support for schools and teachers to enhance student achievement. The coordinator ensures compliance with the Nova Scotia Assessment Policy and supports staff in program and student services implementation. The coordinator will also supervise staff of the Nova Scotia International Student Program.  This role reports directly to the Director of Programs and Student Services.

 

The Coordinator shall perform tasks as are assigned by the Director, Programs and Student

Services. These tasks may vary, from time to time, with the evolution of the organization and may include but not be limited to the following:

 

  • Develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures related to programs and curriculum.
  • Develop an annual program implementation plan, including a framework for implementation, costs, timelines, communications, and strategies for evaluation in applicable curriculum and instructional leadership areas.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of policies, in particular, the Inclusive Education Policy and the Assessment Policy, and support interventions and strategies for equitable and responsive teaching and assessment.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on student learning through the work of the Regional Lead Teams (RLT): setting expectations for principals as instructional leaders, communicating results and planning and implementing actions for improvement.
  • Liaise with Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and other education partners in support of student achievement and well-being such as matters relating to curriculum development and implementation and school leadership.
  • Incorporate effective culturally and linguistically responsive practices in the delivery of services to schools.
  • Manage appropriate departmental budgets and contribute to the annual budget process including making recommendations for the allocation of staff to schools.
  • Investigate issues of concern regarding programming brought forth by principals, teachers, parents and the community.
  • Develop priorities for centre-wide professional development needs, and provide leadership in the organization and implementation of large-scale professional development activities for school-based administrators and teachers.
  • Monitor instructional time allocations with Human Resource Services and recommend changes to maximize effective program delivery.
  • Work with principals, upon request, to assist schools in becoming Professional Learning Communities.
  • Work with Human Resource Services in the staffing and recruitment process.
  • Maintain the website dedicated to their responsibilities.
  • Investigate issues of concern regarding students and/or programming brought forth by principals, teachers, parents and the community.
  • Directly communicate with the Department of Education and schools regarding assessment as well as, serve on the provincial assessment committee.
  • Provide leadership, support and supervision to a diverse management team responsible for overseeing and delivering services in the areas of the Nova Scotia International School Program including the assumption of custodianship on days when the custodian is not in the region, (share days for Christmas Break and March Break).
  • Ensure annual appraisals are completed for all direct reports.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Programs and Student Services.

 

 

Terms and conditions of employment as per Education Entitities: Non-union Compensation Framework and the Public School Administrators Association of Nova Scotia.
Coordinator is rated in payband 12 with a salary range of $107166 - $133958 (as of August 1, 2025).
