The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

General Qualifications and Expected Competencies:
- A valid Nova Scotia teacher's license
- A Masters of Education Degree in Instructional/Educational Leadership or a Master's level degree with equivalent leadership education is preferred
- Previous administrative experience will be given preference
- A minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience in a public school is required
- Demonstrated successful instructional leadership (administrative and/or teaching) in the level(s) to which you are applying is preferred
- Proven leadership abilities and organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills
- Motivation, knowledge, and ability to use applicable technology in developing a balanced approach between the teaching, learning and administrative functions within the school
- Well-developed decision-making and creative problem-solving ability
- Superior skills in strategic planning and implementation of instructional programs
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, quality inclusive education for all students
- Superior ability to stimulate professional growth of staff, through effective professional development programs
- Demonstrated commitment to and above average knowledge and abilities in the areas of curriculum and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
- Superior skills in facilities management, record keeping, financial management and in the supervision of teaching and other staff
- Demonstrated ability to discharge the duties of a principal as set out in Section 38 of the Education Act.

A vice-principal may perform any duty of a principal assigned to the vice-principal by the principal, regional executive director or other senior staff of a regional centre and any other duties prescribes by the Education Act and regulations, including but not limiting the following:
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist the Principal to be responsible for the positive, safe, respectful learning and working environment for all stakeholders.
2. Assist the Principal in establishing a school-wide vision of commitment to high standards and academic success for all students.
3. Assist the Principal in providing leadership, cultivating leadership in others and managing people, data and processes.
4. Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, community and outside agencies to better meet the needs of students in the school.
5. Complete required documents as requested by the Centre and/or the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
6. Assist the Principal to identify staffing needs for the school and to assist in the selection of staff.
7. Assist the Principal to take all reasonable steps to secure full and regular attendance at the school of the students enrolled.
8. Assist the Principal with supervising school-based staff. This includes, but not limited to, ensuring the interests of the Centre are maintained by participating with attendance management, performance management and addressing personnel matters.
9. Assist the Principal and support professional growth through professional development planning and ongoing feedback.
10. Assist the Principal to ensure that appropraite evaluation techniques are used for both students and staff.
11. Assist the Principal in monitoring the maintenance of systems to handle organizational tasks such as student records, teacher records, attendance, purchasing, budgets and timetables.
12. Assist the Principal to ensure the safety and security of the school.
13. Assist the Principal to ensure the maintenance of financial records and compliance with all financial policies and procedures.
14. Support the implementation of all school, Regional Education Centre and Department of Education Early Childhod Development Policies and Procedures.
Terms and conditions of employment as per Education Entitities: Non-union Compensation Framework and the Public School Administrators Association of Nova Scotia.
School is rated in payband 12 with a salary range of $105065 to $131331.
Teaching components for administrative positions (Principal or Vice Principal) may change from year to year based on school teaching staff and student enrollment.
