The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

Qualifications Required
- Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (Education, Administration,Special Education, Technology etc.).
- Valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate and minimum 5 years’ experience working with students with diverse learning needs in a learning support position.
- Demonstrated expertise with Tienet and assistive technology (software, hardware) and familiarity with PowerSchool.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and administrative skills, including staff supervision and resource management.
- Experience in program planning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
- Proven ability to design and deliver professional learning, and to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, families, and external partners.
- Experience with Teaching Support Team Teacher Assistant (TA) assessment processes, including participation or leadership in TA review meetings

Assistive Technology / TIENET Support Consultant
Position Summary
The Assistive Technology / TIENET Support Consultant is responsible for assessing, recommending, and monitoring the use of assistive technology for students across all grade levels. The role also provides leadership and ongoing support for TIENET, the provincial student information system documenting specialized programming and supports.
In addition, the Consultant will act as Lead for the Teacher Assistant (TA) Review Process, helping determine and coordinate TA support for students with significant behavioural, medical, or personal care needs.
Competencies Required
- Extensive knowledge of accessible and assistive technology software such as Read&Write for Google, OrbitNote, Equatio, Co:Writer, Mote, etc.
- Extensive knowledge in the use and set up (setting up and using) accessible and assistive technology hardware such as Chromebooks, iPads, CPens, Fire Tablets, etc.
- Broad knowledge of a variety of types of assistive technology supporting communication, such as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC ) devices.
- Experience in working with a wide range of students with diverse needs in a variety of settings across all tiers of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
- Apply knowledge and experience in the field of accessible education materials and assistive technology to effectively support learning opportunities for students with disabilities and those who face other barriers to learning.
- Extensive knowledge in the use of TIENET and how it supports the program planning process.
- Broad knowledge of PowerSchool.
- Strong administrative abilities, including budgeting, database knowledge, ordering and tracking of equipment.
- Competent abilities in developing and delivering professional development, troubleshooting, and supporting school staff in small or large groups.
- Knowledge of and experience in the Program Planning process at the school site level.

Key Responsibilities
- TIENET Lead for the RCE: manage data, provide staff support, and attend provincial TIENET meetings.
- Lead the Teacher Assistant (TA) Review Process to ensure our TA allotment falls within the budgeted amount:
- Chair review meetings with schools.
- Lead Assistive Technology use and implementation in CBVRCE.
- Assess referrals from school teams and recommend appropriate assistive technology supports.
- Manage AT hardware/software inventory and track AT resources.
- Administer the Assistive Technology grant from EECD to support students with learning disabilities and differences.
- Supervise Assistive Technology Support Workers (ATSWs): manage scheduling, attendance, provide training, and act as the main contact for support.
- Work with ASD Specialists, Behaviour Support Teachers, and other regional staff.
- Provide follow-up support, written reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Deliver professional development for staff on:
- Assistive Technology and UDL implementation
- TIENET use and troubleshooting
- Support schools in program planning, particularly in relation to TIENET.
- Serve as a member of provincial AT/UDL and TIENET teams.
