The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

Key Competencies and Qualifications: 

  • Must hold a valid Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate with at least 7 year's experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering professional development to educators and/or administrators. 

 
  • Recent, expert-level experience in school scheduling using PowerSchool. 

  • Strong understanding of assessment best practices and their application in SIS environments, particularly in gradebook setup. 

  • Proven ability to manage and troubleshoot data integration between student information systems and related platforms. 

  • Experience working collaboratively with school leadership and teaching staff in a support or leadership role. 

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Administrative experience or a Master’s-level degree would be considered an asset.

Student Information Systems (PowerSchool) and Technology Integration Support (NSTU) 

The Consultant – Student Information Systems (SIS) & Technology Integration Support is responsible for leading and supporting the effective use of PowerSchool across the region. This includes training, troubleshooting, scheduling, report generation, and integration with systems such as Safe Arrival and School Messenger. A key function of this role is supporting schools in developing schedules and configuring gradebooks that align with effective assessment practices. The consultant works with school teams to ensure data accuracy, compliance with provincial reporting, and consistency in SIS implementation. This role also collaborates closely with the Technology Integration Consultant to support overall technology strategy in the region. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the regional implementation and management of PowerSchool, including user support, updates, and troubleshooting. 

  • Lead and support school scheduling processes, ensuring accurate and efficient setup in the SIS. 

  • Work directly with administrators and teachers to ensure gradebooks are configured correctly and reflect sound assessment practices. 

  • Integrate SIS with other platforms such as messaging systems and Safe Arrival solutions. 

  • Provide professional development to school-based and administrative staff on SIS tools and data use. 

  • Serve as regional representative on provincial SIS working groups and committees. 

  • Maintain SIS-related budgets and recommend data tools that align with system needs. 

  • Collaborate with the Technology Integration Consultant to ensure cross-system alignment and peak-time support. 

  • Travel regularly to schools across the region to provide in-person guidance and assistance. 

  • All other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Programs. 

 

Salary is as per NSTU Provincial Collective Agreement
