The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

General Administration Qualifications:
- A valid Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate.
- A minimum of five years successful teaching experience is required.
- Candidates with previous administrative experience and/or a degree or diploma in administration will be given preference for these positions.
- Successful candidates must have proven leadership abilities and organizational, interpersonal, and decision making skills. Candidates must also have the motivation, knowledge, and ability to use state of the art technology in developing a balanced approach between the teaching, learning, and administrative functions within the school.
- Recent elementary experience is preferred for positions in elementary schools and recent secondary experience is preferred for positions in secondary schools.
DEPARTMENT HEAD
Qualifications:
- Subject Area educational background.
- 5 Years recent experience teaching in the posted subject area.
Description:
In consultation with, and under the direction of the Principal, the Department Head shall;
1. Assist in the development of objectives for the educational program in his/her subject field.
2. Coordinate the educational program in his/her subject field.
3. Acquaint him/herself with the qualifications, experience, interests and abilities of the staff in his/her department.
4. Hold regular department meetings.
5. Provide assistance, supervision and evaluation of department members from the point of view of:
- Curriculum content
- Teaching techniques
- Class organization and management
- Use of resource materials
- In-service programs
6. Provide regular communication including written reports to the principal on department activities, meetings and supervisions.
7. Coordinate the ordering of books from the Book Bureau and purchasing of classroom supplies for the staff of his/her department.
8. Perform other responsibilities as dictated by school policies and requirements.
Salary is as per NSTU Provincial Collective Agreement
