The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience at the P-3 level within the last seven (7) years. (Recent experience in Nova Scotia is preferred)
- Master of Literacy considered an asset.
- Leadership experience with literacy initiatives at the classroom, school, regional, and/or provincial level(s) (Include examples in Application)
- Experience and training in the planning, organization and delivery of professional development opportunities related to literacy P-3 (Include examples in Application)
- Excellent leadership, team-building, communication (written, oral and electronic) and interpersonal skills (Include Examples in Application)
- Knowledge of the updated (2024-25) Primary to 2 Curriculum

EARLY LITERACY COACH/LITERACY SUPPORT TEACHER
Responsibilities
The Early Literacy Coach will collaborate with the English Language Arts Consultant in determining board needs and long-term planning. As an Early Literacy Support Teacher focused, developmentally appropriate instruction, predominately in-class support for students (maximum group of three) at risk in their literacy development. This teacher will be knowledgeable in beginning reader strategies and interventions, be able to work collaboratively with Grade Primary to Grade 3 teachers to support classroom instruction, monitor and track student growth and work in a variety of school sites within a Family of Schools supporting student literacy growth within a defined block of time. The teacher will also participate in ongoing consultation and conversation with school-based specialists (Resource Teachers, Speech-Language Pathologists) and school administration to addition to being involved in a team PLC to support programming.
Please note: This is a Regional Position and Data will inform the schools you will be supporting. You will be required to travel to all schools in CBVRCE.
Required Competencies
Early Literacy Coach for the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board shall have the following competencies:
- A strong background in Literacy.
- Excellent leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze student literacy data and plan steps for instruction for students.
- Knowledge in current research in literacy and best practice for struggling readers in Grades P-3.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with P-3 classroom teachers, administration and support staff using the TST process for student selection.
- The ability and willingness to teach in front of colleagues during school visits.
- Flexibility in ensuring best approach to students as individual learners.
- Comfortable in developing and delivering professional development.
- Excellent ability to monitor student progress over time and generate an annual report for the CBVRCE and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
You will be required to:
- Provide Tier 1 instruction based on data.
- Design small lessons for student receiving support.
- Maintain documentation on student which includes initial and end data.
- Attend meetings as part of Literacy team.
- Collaborate closely with supporting teaching in P-2.
Salary is as per NSTU Provincial Collective Agreement
