The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

AVAILABLE POSITION: General Labourer (permanent) (Please note: this posting may also be used to recruit those interested in casual General Labourer work)
HOURS OF WORK: 8 hours daily, Monday to Friday. Occasional evening/weekend work may be required.
WORK TERM: Permanent
LOCATION: based at Operational Services. Travel to schools/sites throughout CBVRCE will be required.
RATE OF PAY: $18.70 per hour
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 education or acceptable equivalent in experience and training.
- Experience as a general labourer in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Ability and experience as a commercial cleaner would be considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to do work as required in the posted position, and the ability to
work with others and provide assistance.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift heavy and/or awkward items and perform repetitive movements (ie., snow shoveling)
- Reliable and conscientious.
- Acceptable record of attendance in prior employment.
- General knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials.
- General knowledge and ability to complete minor maintenance and repairs.
- WHMIS and First Aid training
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's licence and a clear driver's abstract is required
JOB DESCRIPTION: GENERAL LABOURER
ROLE: Performs general labour and maintenance to schools, buildings and grounds.
Responsibilities:
Provide labour, assist with maintenance, construction and demolition of school buildings and grounds maintenance in compliance with established practices and standards
- Receive and/or pick up materials and goods from suppliers
- Maintain accurate records of work performance through use of approved work order system
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment in compliance with established practices and standards
- Travel from site to site as required;
- Perform duties in compliance with school, Operations Department and Board policies and procedures, including occupational health, safety, work routines, WHMIS and evacuation plans and the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia
- Other related duties as assigned.
