The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

  Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree preferably in, business or management, urban planning, industrial engineering, transportation/logistics or related fields; an equivalent combination of education/training and experience may be considered  
  • Minimum of (5) five years supervisory experience 
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license & First Aid Training 
  • Expressed familiarity with industry standard practices relating to conveyance and fleet maintenance 
  • Demonstrated experience in operations, logistics, or transportation management 
  • Demonstrated experience in project management 
  • Demonstrated experience leading a multidisciplinary team and managing in a unionized environment 
  • National Association of Pupil Transportation Certification is preferred

  • proficiency in computer software, including fleet and inventory management, spreadsheets, word processing, and routing software (Bus Planner Preferred)

  • training and Accident Investigation

Job Description:
The Coordinator of Transportation is responsible for overseeing all aspects of student transportation services within the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education. This includes managing employees, the bus fleet, ensuring compliance with regulations, coordinating transportation for special needs students, ensuring a continuous supply of qualified and trained bus drivers, and leading strategic planning and policy development.

 

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Coordinator of Transportation will work collaboratively with various departments and external agencies to provide safe, efficient, and effective transportation services, including but not limited to: 

1. Supervise bus drivers and mechanics, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining performance records 

2. Develop and manage transportation policies, plans, and budgets, including strategic planning for all modes of student transportation (including private conveyance) 

3. Coordinate bus routes, stops, and schedules for efficiency and safety, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements 

4. Investigate and resolve transportation-related incidents and complaints, and liaise with school principals on bus discipline  

5. Arrange transportation for students with special needs in compliance with relevant policies and standards 

6. Collaborate with school administrators, government departments, and external agencies to address transportation needs and issues 

7. Manage the transportation budget, monitor expenditures, and develop training programs for transportation staff 

8.  Other duties as assigned

Position is rated in payband 12 ($105,065 - $131,331)
