GAELIC TEACHER

 

CBVRCE is seeking a part-time (50%) Gaelic teacher to teach Gaelic Language 10 through the Nova Scotia Virtual School.  This position would be partial days in Semester 2 for the 2024-25 school year with a start date of Feburary 1, 2025.  The Nova Scotia Virtual School (NSVS) program is an in-person online learning program, providing public school students province-wide with access to specialized grade 10-12 courses in the Moodle Learning Management System, taught by qualified teachers working in any of the Regional Centres for Education. Students participate in these courses at school, during their regular semestered daily schedule, under the supervision of a local teacher.

 

The Nova Scotia Virtual School teacher meets with their students online on a weekly basis, offers virtual office hours for additional student support, maintains and adapts existing course materials and schedules within NSVS guidelines, provides timely feedback and assessment, maintains communication with local School Contacts and families as needed, and guides students through the asynchronous components of their course(s).

 

The NSVS teacher is a member of their local school staff and has additional support from an NSVS Instructional Lead and NSVS Student Success Lead for guidance in supporting virtual students, working with School Contacts for students across the province, and engaging in best practices for eLearning pedagogy.

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • A valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s License.
  • Fluency in the Gaelic Language.
  • A proficiency test in oral and written skills will be required for this position.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

-          5 years successful teaching experience in a related subject area;

-          Experience using Moodle in a course Teacher or Student role;

-          Experience in videoconferencing, screensharing and digital whiteboard use;

-          Experience or education in educational technology integration and eLearning pedagogy.
