CASUAL SCHOOL SECRETARY

 

 

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education calls for applications for casual employment in the following CUPE classification: Casual School Secretary 

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  December 31, 2020       (Applications will be accepted for casual employment at any time; however, it is anticipated that an initial round of casual hiring will be conducted in August/September 2020.  Those interested in casual employment for Fall 2020 should submit their applications by August 7, 2020)

HOURS OF WORK:  Various 

WORK TERM:   Casual on-call basis

LOCATION:  Various schools throughout the Cape Breton Victoria Regional Centre for Education.

RATE OF PAY:  $22.41 per hour 


MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Diploma from a secretarial training institution 
  • A minimum of one year secretarial experience would be considered an asset
  • Experience with word processing, databases and spreadsheet programs is required.
  • Experience with Google Apps for Education would be considered an asset.
  • Applicants should be innovative and creative with respect to utilizing technology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

A competency test will be required for all applicants.  

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal or Principal's Designate of school of employment
 
ROLE: To provide reception, secretarial and accounting services to schools
   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform reception duties which include answering the telephone, greeting visitors and general public, handling staff, student and public inquiries; presenting a positive image of the school when dealing with students, teachers and general public;
  • Type all school correspondence, reports and documentation, prepare all correspondence and sort and distribute incoming mail;
  •  Handle money from global school funds and student funds and to keep accurate accounts and banking for same in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures;
  • Record and submit absences and attendances for employees at their site;
  • Input and access information from the student information system under the direction of school administration and generate related reports and documentation as required;
  • Compile reports and statistics as required by the principal, school board office and the Department of Education;
  • Compile bulk orders for school needs and assist in the preparation of ordering including school book bureau orders;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
