The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education calls for applications for the above noted position.

 

Circuit #1:  Cabot Education Centre, Cape Smokey Elementary & North Highlands Elementary (1 FTE)

Circuit #2:  Jubilee Elementary & Sydney River Elementary (1 FTE)

Circuit #3:  LGBTQ+ Counsellor - Base:  Sydney River Elementary (1 FTE)

General Administration Qualifications:

  • A valid Nova Scotia Teacher's License.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of appropriate teaching experience is required. 
  • Has a Masters of Education Degree in Counselling from an accredited university.


 

 

 

GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR

  Qualifications

  • A valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s License (or qualifications required to obtain one).
  • Has a Masters of Education Degree in Counselling from an accredited university.

NOTE:  Degree must include graduate level courses in:

  • Individual counselling theory and techniques.
  • Group counselling theory and techniques.
  • Assessment or testing.
  • Career theory and techniques.
  • Professional practice issues and ethics
  • University faculty and on-site supervised school-based practicum of at least 400 hours.

 

 

 A professional guidance counsellor has a significant role to play in the design and delivery of the Comprehensive School Guidance Counselling Program.  The guidance counsellor must be a licensed teacher with graduate (or Master’s Degree) level training in counselling who assists students, parents, teachers and school administrators by providing counselling, consulting, coordinating and program management.  The guidance counsellor must demonstrate competencies in the areas of knowledge, skill and attitude (Comprehensive Guidance and Counselling, Department of Education, Nova Scotia 2010).  Please see the provincial document for specific knowledge areas, skills and attitudes that a guidance counsellor must possess.

 

Salary is as per NSTU Provincial Collective Agreement
