Introduction The Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education is located in beautiful Northern Nova Scotia, Canada serving approximately 19,000 children from Pre-Primary through to Grade 12. Reporting to the Facilitator, Schools Plus (Chignecto Family/Cumberland Amherst Hub), the CCRCE is seeking the services of a Community Outreach Worker. The successful candidate will work as a full member of the Chignecto Family SchoolsPlus Team, providing direct support to children, youth and families of schools in the Chignecto Family and will assist in navigating children, youth and their families to services and resources in the community. The Community Outreach Worker will work collaboratively with other school and agency staff to ensure that the student and/ or their family have timely access to services and programs required. This position is also responsible for the facilitation of after school programming and group programming throughout the school day which may require flexibility with the successful candidate's work schedule. School assignments currently include: Pugwash District High, Amherst Regional High, and at times outreach support for students/families of Cyrus Eaton Elementary and Northport Consolidated. These schools/assignments are subject to change by SchoolsPlus based on student and operational needs. |

Minimum Requirements - BSW degree preferred; - Completion of a post-secondary diploma or certificate such as a Child and Youth Care Practitioner degree or diploma, community services workers course, human services workers course, social services course, or bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, etc; - Minimum of two years experience, or acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience; - Proven organizational and evaluation skills; - Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License (and ability to drive); - Strong oral and written communication skills; - Accurate record keeping and reporting; - High degree of professionalism; - Ability to work cooperatively within the multidisciplinary, inter-agency framework with school and community partners |

Additional Assets - Direct knowledge and experience of the community served; - A broad knowledge base related to the physical, psycho-social and emotional needs of a family unit; - Ability to establish and maintain caring, supportive and trusting relationships; - In depth knowledge of services available in the community; - Ability to coordinate and collaborate with other persons and services as part of a Comprehensive Plan of Services for a family; - Knowledge of normal/abnormal child development; - Knowledge of financial management; - Excellent team-building skills; - Ability to maintain case notes and documentation in a timely and effective manner |
