Position:                           Information Technology Support Specialist 

Reports to:                       Manager of Technology Services

Employee Group:             NSGEU

Start/End Dates:              Permanent Position effective June 29, 2026

Hours Per Day:                8 hours/day

IT Support Specialist 

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree, diploma or certification in technology
  • CompTIA Certification A+, Security+ or Network + or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years’ recent experience providing technical related support preferred.
  • Proficiency in network technologies (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi)
  • Knowledge of building access systems would be an asset
  • Knowledge of mobile device management software would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Chrome Enterprise Management would be an asset
  • Proficiency in current operating systems,
  • Training and experience in the installation of a variety of peripheral devices.
  • Knowledge of current technologies in both education and industry
  • Valid N.S. driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work off short ladders

Task Dimensions:

Implements and maintains information and communications technology for designated areas, in accordance with department guidelines. For example:

  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repairing networks, network cabling and connectivity hardware.
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repairing, where appropriate, computer hardware.
  • Installing, configuring troubleshooting and repairing, where appropriate, interactive white boards.
  • Installing, configuring troubleshooting and repairing, where appropriate, data projectors both interactive and standard types.
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining software and operating systems.

 

Performs administrative and support functions with regards to technology and the users of technology. Examples:

  • Develops and maintains sufficient knowledge of the information technologies used by the RCE in order to provide quality technical support to users of those technologies.
  • Maintains appropriate written and electronic records to document any changes made to systems in schools.
  • Completes work orders, surveys and other reports as required on a timely basis.
  • Provides basic technical instruction to school staff on installed systems.
  • Participates in professional development as required.

Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Performs other related duties as required.             

 

BACKGROUND/SECURITY CHECKS:

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education requires all newly hired employees to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check. We will accept checks completed within the last 3 months. 

Regional Office based positions require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license.  Some school based positions also require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license.
