The Strait Regional (0052) invites applications from qualified candidates for the posted vacancy. As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success.  The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”  In 2025-2026, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations.  Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

The Human Resource Administrative Assistant falls under the SRCE Non Union Compensation Framework. Salary, dependant on education and experience, ranges from $50,358.00 to $62,948.00

Work Schedule: 7 hours per day 8:30am to 4:00pm

Administrative Assistant, Human Resources Department

The Human Resource dept. of the Strait Regional Centre for Education are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented administrative assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and have experience managing calendars, scheduling appointments. In this role, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to our team and ensuring the smooth operation of our office. 

 Responsibilities:

  • To undertake activities relating to the day-to-day organization and communication of events, activities, and processes under the jurisdiction of the Director of Human Resources;
  • To manage systems for the handling of inquiries, correspondence and employee information;
  • Maintains human resources records by recording new hires, transfers, terminations, changes in job classifications, and other applicable employee information;
  • To manage the scheduling of events, meetings, and briefings related to the activities of the department;
  • To maintain purchasing and financial records related to the operation of the department, according to the policies and practices of the Strait Regional Centre for Education;
  • Completes internal and external correspondence, form letters and other documents, and distributes them as directed;
  • Prepares and maintains meeting agendas, records and distributes meeting minutes;
  • To manage all required department filing systems;
  • Assist with the management, tracking and communication required in relation to the Provincial Student Protection Policy;
  • Provide support to SRCE Human Resources and Occupational Safety working group;
  • To undertake such other duties as directed or assigned by the Director or designate.

 

Qualifications:

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma or Certificate in Office Administration, or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent, relevant work experience in an office environment;
  • Demonstrated competency in secretarial and administrative tasks including the use of an advanced computer system/software that includes Microsoft Office Suite, Email and database software;
  • Ability to maintain, in the strictest confidence, information received and processed concerning confidential matters;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both internally with Regional Office and School Staff, and externally with agencies, unions, businesses, and the general public;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to work alone or with minimal supervision on department projects and assignments;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workloads effectively to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

 

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working in a Human Resources Department.
