SRCE-25-26, Expression of Interest - Early Hire (Equity Term Teacher)

The Strait Regional Centre for Education is currently seeking expressions of interest from both qualified teachers and those who will be qualified before September 1, 2025. These teachers must meet the requirements for Nova Scotia Teaching Certification and possess a valid NS teaching license prior to the start of work in September, 2025. Those selected as Early Hires will be offered a minimum of one year, in a fixed, 100% term contract, commencing on August 1, 2025 through to July 31, 2026, with salary and benefits as outlined in the Nova Scotia Provincial Teachers’ Agreement. As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success.  The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,000 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”  In 2024-2025, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,981 students.  Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

Essential Qualifications:

• Hold a valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate, or will hold one by September 1, 2025;
• Excellent Classroom Management skills;
• Be of African Canadian, African Nova Scotian, African ancestry or Mi'kmaq/Indigenous ancestry.

Your application must include at least three (3) work-related references, one must be your most recent supervisor.  All candidates short listed for interviews will have references checked prior to being interviewed. 

As a condition of employement with SRCE, prior to hire all employees must provide current (within 3 mos.), and clear Child Abuse Registry & Criminal Record-Vulnerable Sector check.
