Qualifications, Experience & Ability
  • Elementary Teacher
     
    • Minimum Qualifications
      - Bachelor of Education Degree, and;
      - Elementary Endorsation, or a minimum of 3 years teaching in an Elementary setting, or deemed qualified by the Teacher Qualifications Chart

    • Minimum Ability
      Predominately demonstrated through the interview process, the candidate will be assessed on their ability to effectively deal with situations that are likely to arise. External applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70%.

Notes The Summer Day Camp (Summer Literacy Camp) Teacher facilitates literacy programming for participants in lower elementary, grade primary to grade two. Summer Literacy Camp teachers will be responsible for a block of instruction to take place in the mornings. Teachers will work for 1/2 a day and instruct for 90 minutes per day in a scheduled block of time. The Summer Literacy Camp teacher training (which is mandatory) will be 3 days... one asyncronous day and two in person days which are July 3rd and 4th in Halifax. The camp runs from July 21st to August 15th. Teachers will also have two required planning days just prior to camp starting.
 
Additional Assets Experience teaching grades Primary to Two Early literacy instruction with a focus on using assessment to guide small group instruction

Experience Teaching at Summer Literacy Camp

Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning

Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies

Excellent communication skills (written and oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills

Ability to collaborate with Summer Literacy staff
