Casual/Seasonal Non-Union Position

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Regional Summer Literacy Lead will be a mobile position that provides coverage and support to 2 Summer Literacy Camp locations throughout the CCRCE as needed. The role will provide ongoing support to camps that require coverage. When coverage is not required, the Regional Summer Literacy Lead will report to their Home Location.  The Regional Summer Literacy Lead will support the Summer Literacy Day Camp Leader implement recreation programs for participants in lower elementary grades. The Summer Literacy Day Camp Leader will be the first point of contact for concerns and questions from the families. The regional summer literacy lead will be responsible for supporting the Summer Literacy Day Camp Leader with communications to parents/guardians prior to the start of camp on necessary details, as well as during the camp. The regional lead supports and approves the designed activities within a planned recreation curriculum, with the support of the Summer Literacy Camp Leader and camp counselors.  The Regional Summer Literacy Lead supports persons with disabilities in programs and may be required to develop a specific program plan.

 

Other responsibilities include: daily duties such as greeting parents and participants, leading recreation activities, grocery and supply shopping, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants, organizing equipment and supplies, preparing for activities, distributing and collecting permission slips for outings, organizing outings and special events, participating in staff meetings, assisting and supporting the instructor during literacy instruction. They will also be responsible for organizing the purchasing of snacks with a company card.

 

Specific recreational training will be required prior to the start date of the camp, and it is mandatory. Other training will also be provided as part of employment. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • At least one season/summer of experience working or volunteering with children in a recreational setting or equivalent experience (such as working with children in a school setting)
  • Demonstrated program leadership skills
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skill
  • Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development 
  • Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
  • Experience working at a Summer Literacy Camp would be an asset
     

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge, Abilities and Training

  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR
  • Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check 

 

Other Requirements

Valid Driver’s license and willingness to travel

 

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS:  Casual/Seasonal – July 7th, 2025 to August 15, 2025


HOURS OF WORK:  8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Weekdays. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule as required.

SALARY:                                                                                Non-union, $21.00/hour (plus 4% vacation pay)
