The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Qualifications 

 

  • Completion of Grade 12 and a Community College Administration Program or equivalent;
  • Three (3) year related experience in a public office, preferably in education;
  • Accurate word processing, database and spreadsheet skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure with deadlines;
  • Willingness to undergo additional training as required;
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Accountabilities

  • Provide effective and efficient bus dispatch service;
  • Assist the Coordinator of transportation in organizing driver training, attend and provide relative training sessions;
  • Participate in the selection, interview and training of school bus drivers utilizing the Initial Driver Training Program;
  • Monitor driver medical and licensing requirements, complying with provincial and regional policies;
  • Coordinate and ensure bus drivers complete evacuation drills with all schools;
  • Assign spare bus drivers when other drivers are absent due to sickness, leave, etc.;
  • Ensure bus drivers are fully conversant with Center Policy and Federal / Provincial regulations relative to their duties;
  • Supervise driver communication through new bus stop locations, turnarounds and off-road stops;
  • Supervise all aspects of Special Needs transportation;
  • Complete Workman’s Compensation Board of Nova Scotia Employer’s report of Accident/Injury for all occupational accidents and incidents, as required;
  • Receive and document driver’s requests for stop changes, new bus stops and  overcrowding situations. Respond to telephone inquiries, proceed to  initiate changes as required;
  • Answer incoming calls from drivers on the mobile radio, assess urgency of requests and explain operation and emergency procedures;
  • Manage all extra-curricular assignments, tracking and related invoices;
  • Prepare and post bus route media notices for the public including delayed pickup and closed routes;
  • Respond to transportation inquiries using the web-based Bus Routing database;
  • Monitor and record SAP/EasyConnect data entry, ensuring full time drivers and substitute bus drivers’ payroll is uploaded accurately;
  • Participate in professional development;
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned within the scope of the position.

 

The salary for this role is Band 4 as outlined within the terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework. For additional details, the framework can be found here.
