The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Early Childhood Educator (ECE) - Casual on call basis for all Pre-Primary Programs in your area (Digby, Shelburne, or Yarmouth County Schools):
Responsible to: Supervisor of Pre-Primary & Lead Early Childhood Educator (LECE)
Using a team-based approach, the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) will work with the Lead Early Childhood Educator (LECE), and other team members, to plan, organize, create, implement and maintain a responsive early learning environment based on children’s prior knowledge, experiences and interests. The learning environment will be one in which children are encouraged to use play to explore and learn. The ECE will facilitate learning and the creation of new knowledge through supporting children’s relationships with others and with the environment around. The ECE will use responsive professional judgment that uses a combination of knowledge from the children’s family and their own experiences to support the holistic development, and overall well-being of every child. Working collaboratively with the team, the ECE will be responsible in implementing the Pre-Primary Program guided by the principles, goals and practices of the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework, and all other policies and best practices as determined by TCRCE and EECD.
Qualifications

A Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education;

A minimum of 2 years of recent, relevant experience working with preschool aged children in a regulated childcare setting;

Possess an in-depth understanding of child growth and development and demonstrated knowledge and experience using a play-based pedagogy and child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices

Experience working as a part of a team of ECEs;

Knowledgeable on culturally responsive and trauma-informed pedagogy;

Experience with developmentally appropriate observation, documentation and authentic assessment strategies;

Completion of WHMIS and Standard First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire;

Technology-based skills relevant to documentation and communication;

Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds;

Adequate knowledge of the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework, and how to implement the Framework in the pre-primary program.

Accountabilities

Create and implement developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, trauma-informed and inclusive pre-primary programs that are responsive to the interests and needs of the children, family and community;

Facilitate family/caregiver and community involvement in creating and planning of the program;

Work with the Lead ECE (LECE) to clarify roles and responsibilities, establish classroom routines and procedures that will set the stage for a positive learning environment;

Carry out authentic documentation on children’s ways of being and learning;
-
Participate in positive communication with families/caregivers and team members regarding children’s experiences, development and learning;
-
Reflect children’s lives in ongoing displays and celebrations throughout the year;

Maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community/supportive service providers working with children;
-
Support the LECE and team members in developing transition plans for children requiring additional supports
-
Demonstrate and practice appropriate behavior guidance strategies for young children, with consideration of Regional Centre and EECD policies and procedures;

Work in collaboration with the LECE in guiding the day to day flow of the program, including active participation in the development of menus, organizing of outings/special events, developing curriculum, and engaging in team collaboration and reflection;

Participate in a comprehensive, ongoing evaluation of the Pre-primary Program as determined by TCRCE and EECD;
-
Other duties as assigned.
