The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

      Position:               Food Service Worker - Casual on call basis (Ensure to note in your coverletter which county you are available for) 

                               

                                Reports to:            Program Lead, School Food

 

The Food Service Worker (FSW), under the direction of the Lead Food Service Worker,  the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education School Lunch Program Lead and school administrator, will demonstrate strong organizational and planning skills. They are responsible for assisting in the preparation of food items, serving food to students, staff, and guests, performing cashier duties (where and when required), serving customers swiftly, efficiently, and with dignity, and adhering to all food safety standards and the Food and Nutrition Policy for Nova Scotia Public Schools.

The FSW performs optimally in a dynamic, high-pressure, fast-paced environment. They will have daily interactions with individuals from various backgrounds, maintaining a friendly and positive attitude while ensuring confidentiality. The FSW will be committed to creating a healthy food environment by promoting healthy eating, food equity, and a safe and welcoming space. Consistent attendance in current and previous positions is expected.

 

Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the role; 
  • Completion of a recognized food safety training program or willingness to complete within 6 months;
  • Demonstrate strong people skills, in particular, being responsive to the diverse backgrounds and personalities of students of various ages while in a busy, fast paced environment;
  • Physically able to perform duties of the position including heavy lifting (may require lifting of up to 50 lb), walking and standing during most of the day, and working in an environment with heat fluctuations;

Accountabilities

          Food Preparation 

  • Assist in the preparation of food for breakfast, recess, lunch, catering, and other school food programs as required;
  • Assist in preparing a sufficient quantity of meals daily, based on the number of orders received through an online ordering system;
  • Follow detailed instructions and recipes as needed;
  • Ensure appropriate portions are served;

 

Kitchen Management 

  • Assist in regular inventory audits to assess stock levels, identify shortages, and prevent overstocking; 
  • Assist with controlling and tracking food waste;

 

Safety and Sanitation 

  • Follow food safety guidelines and sanitation guidelines. Utilize safe food handling practices to ensure allergen risk management;
  • Clean, organize and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, service areas, and floors;

 

Other Duties 

  • Perform cashier duties and take orders as required;
  • Serve customers in a fast, efficient and friendly manner;
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Lead Food Service Worker, the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education School Lunch Program Lead and school administrator;
  • Promote and maintain positive working relationships and communication; 
  • Assist with school events that require food preparation and distribution;
  • Attend, participate in and seek professional development opportunities.

 

This is a  Non Union position. The salary for this role is Band 1 as outlined within the terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework. For additional details, the framework can be found on the TCRCE HR website Click Here

Band 1 $20.43 per hour
