The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education encompasses the three counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving 5757 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Digby Elementary School - 7 hours - Term position 

First consideration will be given to African Nova Scotians applicants

 

Role: The ECE will work in collaboration with the Lead ECE (LECE) to create and maintain an engaging early learning environment, one in which children are encouraged to explore and create new knowledge through their experiences and social interactions with others. The ECE will support the use of evidenced-based practices and professional judgement to ensure the environment is focused on the holistic development, and overall well-being of the child/ren. Working cooperatively with the LECE, the ECE will be responsible to support the implementation of the Pre-primary Program using the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework.

 

Qualifications & Experiences

 A Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education;

  • Valid Level 3 or 2 – Nova Scotia ECE Classification;
    • Consideration will be given to an ECE with a valid Level 1 Nova Scotia ECE Classification with an agreement to continue to upgrade to a Level 2
  • Should have 3 years of experience working with preschool aged children in a regulated childcare setting;
  • Should have ability to apply computer skills suitable to report writing and internet research/communications such as email, internet and Microsoft Office.

 

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the LECE, the responsibilities of the ECE include but are not limited to:

  • Creating an active and dynamic learning environment that supports and includes all children;
  • Working with the LECE to maintain a collaborative, team approach to program delivery;
  • Delivering developmentally appropriate and engaging programming that is responsive to the interests and cultural needs of the children and community;
  • Observing, assessing and documenting children’s developmental progress;
  • Facilitating family/caregiver and community involvement in the program;
  • Maintaining a welcoming learning environment and having open communication with families/caregivers regarding their children’s experiences and developmental progress;
  • Providing timely identification and support of children’s developmental needs through ongoing dialogue with families and community-based providers to ensure that children’s individual developmental needs are addressed within the context of the Pre-Primary program;
  • Supporting the LECE in writing transition plans for children requiring additional supports in preparation for entry into Primary;
  • Supporting children’s development with materials and resources that focus on emergent literacy and numeracy skills, in particular - play based skills, social emotional skills and gross and fine motor development;
  • Demonstrating and practicing appropriate behavior guidance strategies for young children, with consideration of School Board and EECD policies and procedures;
  • Collaborating with the LECE to ensure the pre-primary students are welcomed and a part of the school community;
  • Working in collaboration with the LECE in the day to day management of the classroom, including active participation in the organizing of all daily programming, supports for students, organizing special events and extra-curricular activities;
  • Participating in a comprehensive, ongoing evaluation of the Pre-primary program via the Continuous Quality Improvement process;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 This is a Non Union Position - 7 hours per day / 10.5 months
