The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

Qualifications

Minimum of three years teaching experience.

Designated position for a Mi'kmaw person. If a Mi’kmaw person is not available, it may be given out on a one-year basis.

proficient knowledge of Mi’kmaw, with an understanding of culture, traditions, ceremonies, history, principles, and values;
-
fluency in Mi’kmaw and knowledge of second language learners is preferred;
-
knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
The Student Success Teacher will:
This position will service Mi’kmaq students in Shipyard Elementary and Rankin School of the Narrows, as well in other schools depending on student need.

collaborate with staff to support the implementation of Treaty Education into provincial curriculum.

collaborate with staff and students to help make the school reflective of cultural diversity and a welcoming place for all students where they see themselves reflected in their environment;

consult with Administrators and appropriate school staff and external organizations, to identify, develop, and implement strategies and programs for student engagement and success;

liaise with L’nu students, (as their responsibilities outline), providing the students with academic, cultural, and language support;

monitor the academic progress of students through PowerSchool, in collaboration with school staff;

ensure all cultural support services are delivered with excellence and align with the CBVRCE policies, procedures and cultural protocols (spiritual and traditional teachings);

recommend strategies and resources as a program planning team member and collaborate with support services;
-
create a culturally inclusive space for students, staff, and community;
-
advocate for students to ensure their individual cultural and mental well-being is met;

in collaboration with teachers, work directly with students to provide academic support that meets their programming outcomes;

incorporate cultural teachings into program delivery;
-
facilitate special events and/or activities that support students on their caseload;

any additional duties as deemed necessary.

Salary and benefits are as outlined in the Nova Scotia Teachers Provincial Agreement. Employment with the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is contingent upon providing a satisfactory Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry check.
