Qualifications:
- Post-secondary training in accounting, audit or finance.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in the field of Accounting/Finance.
- Proficient in MS Office software applications.
- Experience using SAP or S/4HANA accounting software would be considered an asset.
Abilities and Characteristics:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Team player demonstrating effective and cooperative working relationships with all employees.
- Self-starter, who can take charge of an issue and carry it to its completion.
- Excellent time management, data handling and analytic skills.
- Attention to detail.
Task Dimensions:
Performs SSRCE and TCRCE Accounts Receivable functions. For example:
- Preparing receivable reports and follows up on collection of outstanding amounts.
- Preparing monthly billings in accordance with funding and claim requirements.
- Producing reports upon request.
- Completing all relevant monthly, quarterly and yearly procedures and transactions.
- Ensuring all receivables and cash receipts are recorded on a timely basis.
- Connects with various RCE staff as required to discuss funding and billing issues.
- Answering client inquires, including documentation and follow up as required.
Performs SSRCE and TCRCE Cash Management duties. For example:
- Recording all cash receipts with appropriate account codes.
- Ensuring online payments are completed in accordance with payment deadlines.
- Maintaining office petty cash fund and any other internal cash funds.
- Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and related entries for all bank accounts.
- Bank transfers as needed.
- Monitor bank balances to ensure sufficient cash flow for daily cash requirements.
- Take cash deposits to bank.
Performs other duties. For example:
- Preparing monthly HST returns.
- Preparing and submitting fuel tax rebates.
- Preparing annual charity returns.
- Training of and cross training with other members of the Finance staff.
- Maintaining filing systems for the Accounts Receivable documents.
- Compiles information and submits annual casual day donation from SSRCE staff to a recognized charity(s).
Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
BACKGROUND/SECURITY CHECKS:
The South Shore Regional Centre for Education requires all newly hired employees to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check. We will accept checks completed within the last 3 months.
Regional Office based positions require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license. Some school based positions also require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license.
