JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Literacy Coach P-3
Reports to: Literacy Coordinator
Employee group: NSTU
Qualifications:
-
Masters Degree in Literacy, Leadership, Assessment, or Curriculum completed or in progress or demonstrated successful equivalent literacy experience.
-
Knowledge of issues /strategies related to effective literacy practice and curriculum development
-
Experience working with Collaborative Learning Teams and Teaching Support Teams in the use of student data and responding in short cycle responses
-
Strong interpersonal and collaborative team skills
-
Deep knowledge of the ELA curriculum outcomes, P-3
-
Knowledge of best assessment and instructional practice
-
Experience implementing strong Literacy Instruction within an MTSS framework

Task Dimensions:

Supports literacy initiatives for the Region. For example:
-
Monitoring the delivery of the Language Arts / Literacy curriculum at all levels to ensure that all outcomes are being taught
-
Monitoring the delivery of the region assessments and benchmarks.
-
Monitoring Provincial Literacy Assessments and working with teachers to improve instructional practice where deficiencies exist.
-
Supporting Coordinators and school administrators in the delivery of the ELA program
-
Working with new classroom teachers and teachers new in the area of Literacy.
-
Modelling lessons for teachers to improve their skills in developing lessons using various assessment techniques.
-
Working directly with teachers on assessment data and planning a response.
-
Implementing new curriculum, new textbooks and resources.
-
Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Performs other related duties as required.
