Qualifications:

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teachers’ Certificate
  • Masters in Inclusive Education, Special Education, Masters in Education Curriculum Studies- Supporting Learners with Diverse Needs & Exceptionailities or Masters in Curriculum (UDL & Inclusive Education)
  • Being bilingual would be considered an asset

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years classroom experience (P-12)
  • Minimum 5 years LST teaching experience
  • Program Planning experience
  • Coaching/mentor experience

 

Task Dimensions:

The LD Specialist Teacher works with students diagnosed or suspected to have a Specific Learning Disorder/Learning Disability identified through the Program Planning Process. 

 

Support working in designated classrooms throughout the region (P-12) to support students identified through the Program Planning Process:

  • Support teachers in UDL/MTSS best practices
  • Support development and implementation of programming and work closely with Program Planning Implementation Specialist (PPIS) Teacher in schools
  • Support development and implementation of transition plans with Student Planning Teams
  • Facilitate access and use of technology to support students
  • Attend Teaching Support Team, as requested
  • Attend Student Planning Team meetings, as needed
  • Use data to inform ongoing response and support for students

 

Elementary School Level:

  • Raise awareness of personal strengths and challenges
  • To foster self awareness, advocacy, and independence

 

 

Middle School Level:

  • To increase self awareness, advocacy, confidence, and independence
  • Facilitate exploration of effective compensatory strategies
  • Collaborate with school teams to monitor student progress and support assignment completion

 

 

High School Level:

  • To expand self awareness, advocacy, confidence, and independence
  • Facilitate exploration of effective compensatory strategies
  • Collaborate with school teams to increase awareness of student profile
  • Collaborate with school teams to monitor student progress and support assignment completion
  • Engage in planning, meeting, and supporting transition to post-secondary opportunities
  • Explore potential career choices with students (focus on strengths and course choices)
  • Conduct parent information sessions with students and parents to discuss transitioning to post-secondary opportunities

 

 

Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Performs other related duties as required.
