Summer Camp Counselor (Bridgewater Elementary School)
South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) is inviting applications for two casual positions of Summer Camp Counsellor at Bridgewater Elementary School. We encourage applications from qualified African Nova Scotians, racially visible persons, women (applying for non-traditional positions), persons with disabilities, Aboriginal persons and persons of the LGBTQ+ community. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Summer Camp Counselor facilitates recreation programs for participants in lower elementary grades and reports to the Summer Camp Lead. The Summer Camp Counselor assists the Summer Camp Lead in designing and implementing recreation activities within a planned schedule. Participating in individual support plans for children with disabilities and/or diverse needs may be required.
Other responsibilities include: Daily duties such as greeting parents and participants, facilitating games and activities, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants, organizing equipment and supplies, preparing for activities, participating in staff meetings & training, and supporting the Summer Camp Teacher during literacy instructional time as needed.
Qualifications and Experience

At least one season/summer of experience working or volunteering with children in a recreational setting or equivalent experience (such as working with children in a school setting).
Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge and understanding of healthy child development.

Previous experience working with persons with disabilities is an asset.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge, Abilities and Training

Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR is an asset.

Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check.
Security Clearance Requirements
Applicants will be required to complete an employment criminal background screening check.
WORK STATUS
Casual/Seasonal – July 7th, 2025 to August 15th, 2025
WORK LOCATION
Bridgewater Elementary School, Bridgewater, NS
HOURS OF WORK
8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, weekdays.
Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule as required.
WAGE:
Non Union, $18 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

BACKGROUND/SECURITY CHECKS:
The South Shore Regional Centre for Education requires all newly hired employees to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check. We will accept checks completed within the last 3 months.
Regional Office based positions require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license. Some school based positions also require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license.
