Rate of Pay as per CUPE Collective Agreement ($24.44)

Terms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Collective Agreement Local 3876.

 

Reporting to the Property Services Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker will be assisting maintenance staff within the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education.  

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Courier service to schools (typically two days per week).
  • Receive and/or pick up items from suppliers, order and deliver paint supplies.
  • Travel from site to site as required, moving furniture and supplies from school to school or to Kentville Operations Centre.
  • Maintain furniture inventory list, evaluate furniture to keep or dispose.
  • Order custodial supplies for central custodial storage locations.
  • Custodial manintenance duties, keeping warehouse clean, neat and tidy, ice control and snow clearing.
  • Organize and perform painting as required.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment in compliance with established practices and standards.
  • Perform vehicle inspection for assigned vehicle and trailers.
  • Perform minor maintenance and arrange larger maintenance of mechanical equipment, such as trailers, mowers, snowblowers, tractors etc.
  • Maintain custodial equipment such as scrubbers, vacuums, carts, etc.
  • Perform duties in compliance with school, Operations department and Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education policies and procedures; including occupational health & safety, WHMIS and the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia.
  • Assist trades when required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and abilities:

  • Experience in safely operating and maintaing equipment (including lawn care equipment, snow clearing equipment, etc.) painting and general construction would be an asset.
  • Ability to drive with a trailor is a requirement.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Operator's License.
  • Clean Driver Abstract.
  • Physical ability to perform required duties of the position including lifting.
  • Must be able to work with mimimal supervision.
