Scope of Responsibilities

The MTSS Coach is responsible for supporting classroom teaches with the implementation of strategies and practices that lead to an effective, relational, inclusive classroom.  The MTSS Coach will assist in problem-solving with the classroom teacher around classroom and individual student needs to develop supports and practices for an effective Tier 1 classroom.  The MTSS Coach will report directly to the Coordinator of Student Services.

 

Training/Qualifications/Experience

(a) Demonstrates a thorough understanding of and experience with the UDL framework, Problem, Differentiated Instruction and Executive Function skills;

(b) Demonstrates an accurate understanding of the program planning process and how to implement effective documented adaptations, IPP's and other plans; 

(c) Demonstrates a thorough understanding of curriculum (P-5) level and the Literacy Intervention framework;

(d) Adept at building solid, authentic relationships with students and staff;

(e) Demonstrates excellent classroom and student management skills;

(f) Demonstrates knowledge of and experience with using current, effective high-leverage practices in a classroom (Tier 1 classroom strategies);

(g) Demonstrates a thorough understanding of and experience in implementing Tier 1 (universal) supports within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports;

(h) Demonstrates solid skills in planning (backward design) assessment for and of learning and the development of next steps for learners;

(i) Demonstrates ability to observe, identify and make recommendations for effecive strategies, expectations and classroom routines;

(j) Acurately and effectively administer assessment and uses student data to analyze and develop next steps for student learning;

(k) Has a clear understanding of inclusive education and how to meet the neeeds of all learners in the classroom;

(l) Has thorough knowledge in how students learn (multiple intelligences and preferred learning styles);

(m) Demonstrates ability to work successfully in a team environment, and as a teacher coach/mentor;

(n) Demonstrates ability to apply effective strategies for problem solving and conflict resolution;

(o) Demonstrates ability to work with and communicate effectively through strong interpersonal, oral and written skills with students and staff within the AVRCE;

(p) Demonstrates knowledge and experience in the application of assistive technologies used to enhance instruction and learning;

(q) Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of race relations, culturally relevant pedagogy, cross cultural understanding, human rights and diversity, equity;

(r) Has experience and knowldge in planning, organizing, and facilitating professional development sessions;

(s) Demonstrates knowledge and experience using data to form small groups and implement targeted small group instruction and monitor progress;

(t) Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications

  • A valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate;
  • Experience teaching in a variety of grade levels (P-5);
  • Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience; 
  • Will require work travel to various schools in the identified region.
