Consultant of Literacy (Focus Middle/High School)

Reporting to the Coordinator of Literacy and Assessment, the Consultant of Literacy will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of NS literacy curriculum, professional development, resource development, and program support. This role involves collaboration with teachers, administrators, and other consultants to design and implement evidence-based literacy practices that align with DEECD and reginal goals The successful candidate will be responsible for tracking regional progress in literacy; organizing and facilitating professional development; collaborating with literacy staff in various roles; aligning resources with best practices; and assisting schools with the implementation of Student Success Planning goals in literacy. Responsibilities will also include collaborating with AVRCE and DEECD staff in various Programs and Services initiatives.
Training/Qualifications/Experience:
- Valid Nova Scotia Teaching License, required;
- Five (5) years successful teaching experience, preferred;
- Successful teaching and leadership in middle/high school level and in literacy instruction, preferred;
- Training and/or experience with literacy intervention, preferred;
- Graduate Studies or a Masters Degree with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction, and/or literacy, preferred;
- Training and/or experience in program implementation and/or curriculum development, preferred;
- Training and/or experience in educational research;
- Training and/or experience in data collection and analysis;
- Experience in planning and facilitating professional development;
- Demonstrated knowledge of differentiated instruction and assessment in literacy, including literacy development across all curriculum areas;
- Excellent leadership, team building, communication and interpersonal skills;
- Well-developed decision-making and creative problem-solving ability;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS);
- Thorough knowledge of Tier 1 evidence-based practices and how to help teachers enhance these in their classrooms;
- Experience in Self-Regulated Strategy Development (ThinkSRSD).
