Qualifications and Abilities:
- Valid Nova Scotia Teaching License.
- Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience.
- Knowledge of or experience in experiential, community-based programming, and career-based education.
- Masters degree with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction preferred.
- Exemplary teaching experience at the high school level, especially in career-based or community-based programming, experiential learning, adventure education, and/or physical education.
- Knowledge of the high school curriculum and programs including Co-op Education, Options and Opportunities (O2), Technology Education, Skilled Trades and Family Studies, Business Education, and Physical Education.
- Training and/or experience in program implementation and/or curriculum development.
- Experience in organizing and facilitating professional development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with effective planning, differentiated instruction and balanced assessment.
- Excellent leadership, team building, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to initiate and follow through on tasks and priorities.
- Well-developed decision-making and creative problem-solving ability.
- Knowledge of and experience working with partner agencies serving youth.
- Experience managing lead teams in the implementation of site-level projects and high school curriculum.
- Experience managing budgets.
Responsibilities:
- Implementation and management of programs/courses designed to meet the needs of learners who require multiple pathways through high school, and who transition to post-secondary institutions and/or the work force.
- Budget creation & management.
- Policy monitoring and support (ex. Safety guidelines for Community Based Learning, Phys Ed Safety Guidelines, Adventure Trips, etc).
- Overall communication and program development with schools, partners and stakeholders including the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, agencies that serve youth (Health, Justice, Community Services, for example); NSCC and other secondary institutions, apprenticeship, employers, community and other AVRSB consultants in Programs, Student Services, RCH, Technology Integration, Property Services and Finance.
