SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING SUPPORT TEACHER
A Social Emotional Learning Support Teacher will have the following roles:
Role of Social Emotional Learning Support Teacher in Elementary School:
- Involved in the Well Being and Mental Wellness Plan for the school community, working closely together with the other partners.
- Organize and deliver the Student and Staff Needs Assessment.
- Classroom/ whole school presentations when related to transitions or an identified Social Emotional and/or Career Exploration needs.
- Advocating for students within the school community and with community partners.
- *Support mediation and restorative practices (if trained).
- *Supporting student needs regarding Life/Career planning and transition (if trained).
- *Credit checks ensuring graduation requirements and post-secondary needs (if trained).
- Communicating and working with parent/guardians to support a student.
- Collaborating with teachers, professionals, (e.g. social workers, psychologists, Child and Youth Care Workers, School Plus staff).
Together with other identified staff supporting work on:
- Informing students of scholarships, bursaries and awards (organization is taken on by another staff person).
- Graduation ceremonies in a support capacity.
Qualifications:
· A valid Nova Scotia Teachers License;
· Has appropriate teaching experience in a Resource or Guidance type position as it relates to the roles of this position.
