Salary $72,022-$90,028 annually (pro-rated for term of employment and depending on qualifications and experience)

The Transportation Supervisor will report to and work under the direction of the Coordinator of Transportation.  The Transportation Supervisor manages the special needs and alternate school bus/van transportation system and ensures it operates efficiently and effectively and maintained in accordance with the Provincial Regulations and Board Policies.  This position includes supervision of transportation staff.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Motivates employees, including performance appraisals, and problem resolution, to achieve a positive work environment.
  • Supervises contracted taxi transportation, including  special needs and alternate school transportation, approving invoices and compliance.
  • Manage bus runs and bus stops for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Address requests for changes to bus stops or new bus stops.
  • Regularly liaise with the Coordinator of Transportation, School Principals, parents/guardians, and Regional Office staff.
  • Participate in the interview, selection, hiring, and training of special needs bus/van drivers.
  • Assist with School Bus Safety and Evacuation training for all schools. 
  • Ensure bus drivers are fully conversant with and follow established standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Monitor driver’s medical and licensing requirements to ensure compliance with Provincial and Centre policies.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations.
  • Use GPS vehicle tracking, digital mapping, and computerized routing on a daily basis.
  • Complete special assignments as requested by the Coordinator of Transportation.

 

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and abilities:

  • Effective communication techniques using tact and professionalism is required.
  • Strong organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills is required.
  • Previous successful experience in a supervisory position is required.
  • Five years successful experience in Transportation Management work experience is preferred.
  • Post-Secondary or specialized training in Transportation Management preferred.
  • Hold a valid Class 2B Nova Scotia Driver’s License with air brake endorsement.
  • Advanced facility with computer software, including GPS vehicle tracking, digital mapping, word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and email.
